Top Level Domains and Subdomains

A website domain is the name you type into your browser to get to a particular website. Domains take the form “www.example.com”.

Top Level Domains
A top-level domain or domain name (TLD) is the highest level of domain names in the root zone of the Domain Name System of the Internet. For example, in the domain name www.example.com, the top-level domain is com.

Subdomains
In the Domain Name System (DNS) hierarchy, a subdomain is a domain which is underneath another domain name in the hierarchy / which is part of a larger domain, for example:

"mail.example.com" and "store.example.com" are subdomains of the "example.com" domain, which in turn is a subdomain of the "com" top-level domain (TLD).
